Weston Lakes the City

One of the main reasons for incorporation was to preserve our quality of life in the first place. If annexed, we would have been swallowed up by a larger surrounding city and this was a very real concern. Our MUD had solid infrastructure and over a million dollars which made us an even more attractive target. Incorporating was in large part, a blocking move to avoid annexation by Fulshear and keep control of our community and our way of life.

A pledge was made to our residents.

The city would be unobtrusive and not impose taxes. The City Council has done exactly that. I was against purchasing the Sales Office/Welcome Center from the beginning and this has not changed. This is no longer an issue. The sales office is not for sale. Considering the significant amount of funding that would be required for the purchase or the construction of any city owned City Hall facility, I feel there should be a vote approving any such purchase or construction by the residents of Weston Lakes. We must keep expenditures under control and our overhead low!

Being a City has also given us a seat at the table for regional concerns. An example: we were able to get the deceleration lane put at the entrance of Weston Lakes at no cost. Another example: the stakeholders (MUD, Mayor Zudunkewicz/City Council, POA and Developer) worked together as a unified voice with Commissioner Andy Myers to drain and improve Pecan Lake at very little cost to Weston Lakes.

We will never know how many houses were saved during Harvey due to this project.

Current and Future Plans

My goals are and have always been to:

  • Maintain the quality of life we moved to Weston Lakes for

  • Not have city taxes (as my actions confirm)

  • Continue working on drainage improvements

  • Keep expenses under control and continue saving money

  • Small and nonintrusive city government

  • Keep our entrance safe (especially with the new school and increased traffic)

  • Improve communication, transparency, and unification of our city government

  • Get a better understanding and look for a solution to the power outage problem

  • Protect and preserve our community for future generations

Our City. Our Home.
